Fall In Love With Your Home Again

You know that feeling you get when you walk into your clean and organized home? When everything is in its right place and looks perfect? Your home is your castle and you should love coming to it every day. We deserve to have a place for family and friends to gather and enjoy. It is easy for stuff to pile up and get in the way of what made you fall in love with your home in the first place.

We have listed 6 easy ways to make your house a home. Why not spend some time perfecting the little things and fall in love with your home again.

one

Declutter and Organize

Decluttering and making space is sure to make your home happy. Purging can be a simple task when you break it down into steps. The Susan & Moe Team have a great post on purging your home with ease. Check it out here https://www.susanandmoe.com/fall-purge/. If you have already purged and you still don’t have a lot of space, grab some storage bins or baskets for quick and easy organization. Unused areas like under the bed can be a great spot for storage. You can add shelves, racks and hooks for smaller objects under sinks and inside cabinets. Rearranging furniture is a great way to create a fresh new look. Often when we move into a place, our furniture goes into a spot and 3 years later it's still there. Try moving some things around and seeing how it can positively affect your space.

two

Try Out a DIY

If you have some extra time, you may want to try out some easy DIY’s. You don’t need to be a carpenter to design a room. There are tons of great YouTube videos that will break tutorials down into easy steps. Get your loved ones involved and do some projects with the kids. The amount of laughs you will have while doing it is almost as great as the end results. If you aren’t looking for that much of a challenge, you can still change the appearance of your room in an easy way. DIY’s can be as simple as painting a room or changing the knobs and handles on your cabinets. Small changes like this will make a huge difference that surely won’t go unnoticed.

three

Surround Yourself with Things You Love

It is all to easy to get caught up in the trends and outfit your home with something that is popular right now (pineapples) and might not be trendy next year. If you fall in love with a chair that is totally off the wall different from what’s in style now, go with it! This is your home and you should be happy with what’s in it. Unless if you really love the new trends and want to be in style, do what makes you happy! It is you who lives there, not your mother or your best friend. Printing out photographs is becoming a thing of the past, but if you want your house to feel homey – print some off! You can buy discount frames from Winners or even the dollar store. Surrounding yourself with photos of your family or from your travels is sure to put a smile on your face.

four

Remove What You Don't Love

People change and trends change. You may find yourself holding onto old items because there was a time that you really liked it. I know that I went through a phase of loving zebra print and literally every household item was painted in stripes. At the time, I was in love with it, but now I could do without. Donating or selling these old items is a great thing to do, as there is probably someone else who is really into that style right now! Bigger things can sometimes be a challenge when you change your style. If you don’t like your couch anymore, there might be a simple fix. Perhaps you could buy a slip for it or dress it up with some fancy pillows or a throw. Maybe you have another couch in the rec-room that you could swap out. If you aren’t liking something, try to figure out how you can change it, so you do. If you absolutely can’t stand it anymore and there is no making it better, it is time to let it go.

five

Let There be Light

Letting in natural light is such an easy way to brighten up your home’s mood. Pulling back the curtains or opening the blinds on a sunny day will immediately liven up your space. Not to mention, your plants will love it! If you have old blinds on your windows, perhaps it is time to take those down and add some sheer, flowy curtains. Darkening shades are great for bedrooms as you can block the light, but are still easy to open to let the light back in. A simple hack for getting more light in a room is adding some mirrors. Hang mirrors on opposite walls to let the light bounce off. Painting darker rooms a lighter colour is also sure to brighten up your space.

six

Eat More Meals at Home

We know that this can certainly be a challenge! Did you know that the average person eats approximately 50% of their meals outside of the home? Studies show that eating home cooked meals as a family is linked to healthier and happier lives. Sitting down with your family breaking bread and connecting with one another really is a crucial part of your home life. The dreaded grocery shopping and dirty dishes don’t make this an easy task, but your family will thank you for it. Meal planning and preparation can be a huge help to eating meals at home. Having a kitchen that you love and want to spend time in can make the cooking part more fun. If you really don’t enjoy cooking, try throwing some ingredients into a crockpot and have the meal ready for when you get home from work.

If you have already done all of these things and still aren’t in love with your home, give us a call. We would love to help make your house a home again.
